The Carnivore Diet: Meat Your Maker or the Next Best Thing?

Carnivore Blog

If you’ve been on social media lately, you’ve probably seen someone preaching about the Carnivore Diet – an all-meat, zero-carb way of eating that’s got everyone from fitness influencers to your neighbor’s cousin claiming it’s the secret to health, weight loss, and eternal youth (okay, maybe not that last one… but close).

At BodymetRx, we’re always down to explore new trends – especially when they promise to make you leaner, healthier, and more energized. But before you toss your veggies in the trash and start hoarding ribeyes like you’re preparing for the apocalypse, let’s take a closer look at what the science (not just your favorite TikToker) says about this diet.

What’s the beef with the carnivore diet?

The Carnivore Diet is exactly what it sounds like – all animal products, all the time. Meat, fish, eggs, butter, maybe some cheese if you’re feeling wild… and absolutely no fruits, veggies, grains, or anything that once grew out of the ground.

Fans of the diet claim it helps with:

  • 🥩Rapid Fat Loss
  • 🥩Better Digestion
  • 🥩Clearer Skin
  • 🥩Reduced Inflammation
  • 🥩Superhuman Energy

But before you go full caveman, it’s important to remember that anecdotal evidence (aka your buddy Chad who lost 20 pounds eating only steak) doesn’t automatically make something scientifically sound.

But what does the science say?

We’re not here to crush anyone’s bacon-wrapped dreams – but decades of human randomized controlled trials (the gold standard of scientific research) show that fiber from plants plays a massive role in digestion, gut health, heart health, and even longevity.

Dr. Christopher Gardner, professor of medicine at Stanford University, puts it best:

“Fiber isn’t just important – it’s essential. Diets rich in whole plant foods consistently show long-term health benefits.”

Translation: Just because Chad’s been eating steak for 30 days and feels great, doesn’t mean you’re destined to feel the same – or that it’s the healthiest option in the long run.

why fiber is your gut’s bff

Fiber does way more than just keep things … moving along. 💩

It helps:

✅ Feed Healthy Gut Bacteria

✅ Lower Cholesterol

✅Reduce Inflammation

✅Keep You Full Longer

✅Lower the Risk of Heart Disease

And the best part? Fiber comes from some of the yummiest foods on the planet – like avocado, quinoa, broccoli, and even dark chocolate (yes, chocolate counts!).

is there any meat on the bones?

To be fair – the Carnivore Diet might work for some people in the short term. Cutting out processed junk and focusing on protein can help with fat loss and curbing cravings.

But long-term? There’s just not enough research to say this diet is sustainable, healthy, or even safe for most people. Plus… what kind of life is one without guacamole 🥑 or dark cholate 🍫???

so… should you try it?

Here’s the thing: There’s no one-size-fits-all diet. What works for your best friend’s husband’s coworker won’t necessarily work for you.

That’s exactly why we have Registered Dietitians Candace Morgan, RDN, and Caitlin McKee, RDN on the BodymetRx team.

Both Candace and Caitlin specialize in personalized nutrition coaching – helping you navigate what’s trending without sacrificing your health (or your sanity). Whether you’re dealing with gut health issues, weight loss goals, or just trying to figure out what the heck you should be eating – they can build a plan tailored specifically to YOUR body, YOUR metabolism, and YOUR goals.

the bottom line

Meat is great. Fiber is great. You know what’s even better? A balanced diet backed by science, not social media trends and influencers.

If you’re ready to stop chasing fads and start fueling your body the right way, our one-on-one nutrition coaching and custom meal plans can help you finally feel your best – without cutting out entire food groups or surviving on steak alone.
